The Banarasi saree is more than attire — it is ceremony woven in silk and zari. Whether you are a bride or a guest, a thoughtful drape transforms how the weave falls and shines.
Prepare the saree
Steam lightly so the silk softens. Keep the blouse snug and the petticoat well-tied at the waist. Place the pallu so the motif faces outward when finished.
Classic Nivi drape
- Tuck the plain end into the petticoat at the right waist and wrap once.
- Make neat knife pleats (about 5–7) and tuck them at the centre front.
- Bring the remaining length under the right arm and over the left shoulder as the pallu.
- Adjust so the border sits evenly and the zari catches the light.
Finish with a soft brooch if needed, and let the pallu fall naturally — never force stiff folds on handloom silk.
